My plan for world domination is almost complete...

Mouse Noses on Toast, my first children’s novel, won the Nestlé Children’s Book Prize, while another of my ‘books for little people’, Peter the Penguin Pioneer, reached the Blue Peter Book Awards shortlist. My debut adult novel, Boxy an Star, was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award and longlisted for the Booker Prize. My fiction has been published in the UK, Germany, Italy, Russia, Australia, the US, Canada and China.

I teach prose skills to authors, non-fiction writers, journalists and those who wish to improve their business communication skills.
  • I am mentor to several novelists and non-fiction authors. Places are limited due to the time-consuming nature of this service. Contact Laura at Writer’s Workshop for details.
  • I can write a detailed 3,000 word report on your unpublished manuscript, also via Writer’s Workshop.
  • Contact me to enquire about my workshops teaching prose skills.
Laurence Daren King

“It is difficult to sum up King’s dazzlingly weird, filthy-naive writing style. His first novel, Boxy an Star, was published in 1999 to gasps of astonishment. Critics described it as ‘exceptional’, ‘maverick’, ‘scorchingly poetic’, ‘my very favourite work of fiction this year’ and ‘like some delirious encounter between PG Wodehouse and William S Burroughs’.”
